I would really like to see this OS work, I know it wont because Microsoft sucks but I
would really like it to work. I want it to stay completely normal and not give weird errors after its only been on
the computer for 5 months or so, that
January 28, 2006 at 8:17 pm #559GwegKeymasterHa, hilarious post Tim. But yeah, it would be amazing if M$ could actually get
one of their OS's to actually run for a decent amount of time. I'm already starting to get weird
errors and crashes for absolutely no reasons at all. But I don't have time to format and reinstall here,
so I'm gonna have to duke it out til summer. But, no matter what Microsoft wants, I'll be using XP
for awhile (my workstation and dual 933 are stilll using 2000 even), cuz I never trust the new operating systems
when they first come out. Way too many bugs at that point.
January 29, 2006 at 12:09 am #560tcolvinMIKeymasterNo matter what happens, Microsoft is going to be completely bloated. One thing I
did find awhile back that was interesting is that Microsoft is moving its UI out of the kernel. Probably the
smartest thing Microsoft could have done for themselves. This is one of the reasons Linux and other Unix based
OS's (excluding the MacOS) run so well. When the UI crashes, it can be restarted without shutting down
the entire system. If this proves to be true, Vista will run a whole lot smoother.
Everyone is a
little bit leary about running new software right after it comes out, because invariably, the best testing that can
be done on a piece of software is done by the user community, rather than some QA bitch within the company.
This is not to say that QA people dont do their job well. You'd be surprised what is caught in QA prior
to release. However, there is almost ALWAYS some unique way of doing something that the QA person didnt think
of. Users, as much as we think they're id10t's, are quite handy with QA.
January 29, 2006 at 12:51 am #561GwegKeymasterYeah, as well as you know me Colvin, I'd be the perfect QA tester for
Microsoft. You know first hand that I've found some of the most unique and mysterious ways to crash
Windows, and really, I'm quite pride of myself for being able to do that, ha!
January 29, 2006 at 12:52 am #562tcolvinMIKeymasterWhy do you think I let you test the update tool before anyone else?
January 29, 2006 at 1:09 am #563GwegKeymasterHaha, very true, Sir, very true.

Here's another update from Bennett Brauer. It looks as if Microsoft is “touting” its new
operating system. It seems their trying to convice John Q. User to upgrade or else. So what if it
“crashes profusely” or “doesnt operate well”. Maybe it isnt “secure” or maybe
the only security is “in the box itself.” Perhaps IE “stole its technology from other
sources” or is trying to become “mainstream” by introducing “tabs” So what if they
“discontinue XP” like they did with every other OS they've written. If that doesnt get you,
maybe its “abundance” of updates that are usually “late” will entice you to upgrade. I
guess until someone else writes an operating system that works well, we'll all just have to “give in to
the man” and “purchase” Windows.
Here's the article on Slashdot.
