I didn’t mention it, but we have access to the forum on mobile, as well.

There’s a lot to be done and some tweaking to the formats yet, but all in all, Im pretty damn happy that the forum is back up and running again and I can post aimlessly where basically only Greg and I read this. Will be interesting to get more folks signed up and actually have a working forum again.

We dont really have much planned as of yet, but Im super excited about the hosting package, the fact that we’re backing up successfully on a daily basis right now, and that things converted with very little issue. Some of the older posts are going to need some tweaking to get the formatting corrected, but we can chip away at that.

The MI theme uses the following code in the index.php to determine the date and time.

You should have something similar in your theme.  If not, send me the index.php file and I'll parse through it.

Yes, it is possible to add the time stamp.  I'll go back through the MI theme and see what the specific code is to do that (because I dont remember…Im on info overload at the moment!).  Once I figure it out, I'll send it to you

The default appears to be 10 posts.  I can throttle it down to 5 (which might not be a bad idea).  Lets get some content up there first and make sure the setting works, then we'll throttle it back if we need to.

Right now, I think Im going to leave MT alone and focus on the MI site for now.  Im actually seriously considering having MI essentially absorb MT completely and create all content as part of MI.  One thing I dont want to happen is that MI is ignored because we're focusing on our own sites.

If you're reading this, the forum conversion is completed.  Welcome to the new forums.

Well, I think we'll want to plan a bit more on the wiki, to see exactly how we want to handle that, what kind of content we want to put in there, etc.

Glad to see things are working out with WordPress.  Cant say enough good things about it.  As I mentioned last night, haven't been this excited about this stuff in awhile.  Gonna mess around more with the forum tonight, but if all goes well, Im looking for Friday night to convert.  May take some time tonight to get a development copy of wordpress installed to mimic what we have in production and see what I need to do to get the conversion done real time.  I'll keep you posted on that.

Well, WordPress will give you much of the same capabilities that Joomla will, as far as from a design perspective.  You can create menus and its a lot simpler.  One of the things I like about the new version of WordPress is the dynamic sidebar using widgets (which Im sure there are more of them than what I have).

One of the things Im posting about tomorrow on the main site is what makes an open source package work, and usability and documentation are certainly two of those things.  WordPress, in my opinion, is far superior to all other CMS's because of their documentation and organization.  It just works.

I think, for sanity's sake, you'll find it a lot wiser decision.

I have to admit, thats been my success rate with Joomla as well.  The documentation for Joomla was definitely lacking the last time I had a look at it.  I havent gandered at it since then, because I had similar frustrations.  Joomla is enormously more complex than Woodpress, but it appears as the developers of WordPress took their time to organize things right, and this has paid off for them.  I'll be happy to take a look at what you have and see if there's something I can do with it.

Im curious, why Joomla?  What is it that Joomla gives you that WordPress might not?  I have to tell you that Im incredibly pleased, minus my little issues Im having with converting the forum, with how WordPress is functioning.  It has most of what every CMS would want and Im certain that tying into other packages isnt an issue, once you figure out which ones work best.

Let me know if you want me to look at it and I'll be more than happy to do so, as time permits.

Looks like you can turn the old menu bar back on by going to the Firefox Menu button (big orange button at the top left of the screen) and selecting Options, then Toolbars, then Menu Bar.  The Firefox Menu button will disappear and your menu bar will re-appear.  Since I have all of my bookmarks linked to Google, the Gbookmarks extension places an item in the menu bar, which doesnt appear when using the Firefox Menu button.  I may look at Firefox sync though, just to see how good it is.

I agree, we have a lot to talk about.

I think for the MI main site, at least, initially, I'd love to be able to have it be at least a WordPress blog, so that we can post updates.  We can link to other sites easily enough.  If we wanted to get more fancy with it, we can do that, but I really want to get AWAY from thinking about the designs, because it detracts from the actual content and turning these sites into something.  And quite frankly, I dont think either of us have the time for all of that crap anymore.

If we decide to go down the WordPress route, we can probably put a fairly simplistic design together over the weekend, and just go off of that so we can focus on a sweeter design later.  Doesnt have to be pretty, just has to function.

Guernsey Computer Solutions – Disabled, no longer in existence.
MI Dev is a subsidiary of Mightor Industries. – Not active at the present.
MI CMS realistically is a product within MIdev but could also be considered its own subsidiary of MI. – Not active at the present.

I primarily use Firefox under a private browsing mode, because all of the regular websites I go to, I know the address for them.  Even if Im browsing at something and I lose it,I'll find it again.  I'd rather not have the traces of all of the garbage that comes in.  Nor do I save any passwords of any kind.  Sometimes its a struggle to remember, but for the most part, I make it a point to try to secure my browser so that no garbage is getting through that thing and putting myself at risk.

Now, with that being said, one thing I absolutely do not like about FF4 is the fact that when you're running in Private Browsing mode, and you move forward on a site, that you no longer have the ability to go back!  I understand the concept here, but its a huge pain in the ass.

I found that with Logmein, even if I didnt install the plugin, I was still able to view my PC's by simply skipping the installation for now.  I didnt notice any difference in the performance of the logmein connection.  I did notice that they updated the task bar for a session (probably unrelated).

Chrome has the same issue that all browsers have, they all render sites a bit differently.  I wouldnt completely abandon FF, anymore than Ive completely abandoned IE.  They all have their place.  I use IE primarily for anything from Microsoft, although this is becoming less and less frequent.  I use Chrome for Netflix, but with Netflix you have to make sure you have private browsing turned off, because Netflix is apparently trying to store some kind of cookie or something on your system.    I use Firefox for everything else.
