Yeah, except Howard Dean was serious. The article I posted was a joke. A lot of similarities in their speech giving technique, as well as language (see SNL skit for Howard Dean telling campaign people to F*** off).

tcolvinMIKeymasterChrist, we used to play this game all the time when we were growing up. Greg was always playing that. It'll be sweet to see how it comes out on the Wii.
400th post. Wooooooooooooooo.

tcolvinMIKeymaster“You know, a lot of people go to school for 6 years”
“Yeah, I know, they're called doctors”tcolvinMIKeymasterYeah, there are some enhancements to the Event Viewer as well that track much of the same thing. Im glad Microsoft finally started realizing that we need these types of tools. Although a lot of the reasons for this is awhile back Microsoft bought Wininternals, which provides applications for more detailed monitoring of performance and processes. Ive used their Process Explorer before for some things here at work and it shows a lot of different things, including what files are associated to a process. Very handy to have if you're trying to find a memory leak.
tcolvinMIKeymasterFound a decent article about ReadyBoost. Seems to have some picky specs though. Im gonna have to dig up my USB drive and see if it'll work with it. If not, its off to Newegg to find one that will.
tcolvinMIKeymasterI have not yet tried that, but it seems promising. And really all ReadyBoost does is acts as a placement for the page file, rather than acting as extra ram. The nice thing about it is because flash memory is faster than hard disks, moving data in and out of the page file will be a lot faster. I'll look into it and see what I can find
tcolvinMIKeymasterIts interesting that you bring that up. A few years back we were having problems with a computer in one of our computer labs at Walsh. I got on the phone w/ Dell and they decided that it was a bad motherboard that had been causing our particular problem (what it was exactly, I dont remember). So they shipped us the new board and after it was installed, we were getting the same errors. Turns out the cause of the problem was a bad mouse. Its interesting how you think its one piece thats causing a problem when in actual fact, it could stem from another problem or be caused by something you didnt even think about.
tcolvinMIKeymasterWe were having issues with permissions prior to the upgrade. It just never got looked into again, probably because no one had time.
tcolvinMIKeymasterRemember we use to get similar errors, but was with the file allocation table. Although, that didnt mean that the drive was bad. Yeah, knoppix wont let you set up wireless adapters. Wireless is still something the Linux community needs to do better with. Right now, the only real option is to use the NDIS drivers supplied with a piece of hardware, and the ndiswrapper program. however, knoppix doesnt allow you to do that natively. now plugging right into the ethernet outlet works fine in Knoppix.
Knoppix has gotten me out of many binds before. Its definitely something good to have around.
tcolvinMIKeymasterI found three inactive accounts on the system. Ive sent an email out saying that if no response is received in the next 7 days, the accounts will be terminated. If by next monday, if I havent received anything, I'll remove the accounts. Someone may have to remind me though…
tcolvinMIKeymasterI sent one out to the first new registration, but havent heard anything. And I sent out that mass email after the upgrade, and havent seen him sign on yet. I think Im just going to trash the accounts.
tcolvinMIKeymasterI agree with your posting rules, but I think we should make the time period longer, say a new user must post within 30 days of signing up, then post again within 30 days (essentially giving them up to two months). Im also willing to, if someone signs up and doesnt post within the alloted time period, send them an email seeing if they wish to be active. If no response is given within 15 days, the account should be terminated.
tcolvinMIKeymasterIf you're going to get Vista, get the full version. Ive heard the OEM versions are cheap, so that might be the way to go. Ive recently installed a fresh copy of XP and upgraded to Vista, which goes fine, by the way. The other wouldnt allow me to activate using the product key I had. Performing a clean install is important to me and being able to do it easily is also important. It seems to me that Microsoft hasnt allowed this to occur, probably because they want you buying a full release.
As far as some details, Vista really doesnt take any longer to boot than XP. Of course, with 128 MB video, a gig of ram and a 3.0 Ghz processor, it isnt bad.
In the next day or so, I'll post some screen shots of Vista and what it can do.
