GwegKeymaster
Dudes, I just now noticed at the beginning of the ad, there is a chainsaw sitting right next to the fireplace. How awesome is that?
HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!!
GwegKeymasterOh man, that is hilarious. Great publicity for the movie tho!!
GwegKeymasterCool, moved seems to have go smoothly. But, I don't know if it's me or not, but I've noticed on all old posts before the move, they all seem to have funky formating. All the lines seem to be double spaced, and the text doesn't seem to go all the way to the right of the screen, seems to just stop halfway. Don't know if it's me or not, but might be worth looking into.
GwegKeymasterYes they can, last year I was running a SATA drive and 2 IDE drives in my computer. The only thing I
can't remember is what the jumpers on the IDE drive should be set to. I think, since you just have one,
that setting it to cable select should work just fine. Because, once your computer looks for the boot record,
it should load up the SATA drive as the primary drive once Windows starts (I say that, cuz I've had
wrong hard drives and OS's booted before, back when I ran thinks like dual installs).
I also figured
that your computer is capable of UltraDMA, most computers within the last 5-6 years have been. I know all mine
have been, even my old 133MHz PC (which I need to get out of the basement sometime and boot it back up, some things
I want to do in Win3.1 with it).
My biggest beef with Vista is that, right away, it's going to blow
— it'll crash all over the place, have massive security issues, and just plain buggy (as every new Win release
is). Waiting for a service pack or two should help fix that. Also, I don't like the idea of all the
resources is has to hog for no reason. Yeah, I'd turn off all the MacOSX ripped off graphics/bubbly
hippie crap before I'd ever use it (as I do with XP), but even then, it's still going to hog an
unbelievable amount of resources. Precious resources that I don't feel the need that I have to upgrade
just yet (like my RAM); and my video card is really good at running pretty much all of the current games right now
under XP, but it'll be a useless paperweight once I upgrade to Vista.
So, I'm probably gonna
wait awhile before even messing with Vista, probably around the time when GeForce10 cards are cheap, and quad core
processors are the norm.
GwegKeymasterYeah, I've been dead for awhile, not to mention my computer as well. It seems I have a never ending
nightmare with trying to keep a computer running long enough just to use it. I haven't been feeling well
the past couple of days, and as you can see, I haven't been on the net in over a month. I hope to fix
that eventually, as I've slacked on a lot things, and I need to get caught up on all my postings and updatings
to websites.
Account stuff; for now, I say just leave it as is. Once we get back into managing the
site again, we'll figure out what to do with that. I'm gonna try and be around more, but that's
getting hard for me. Lately, I've been working on a lot of portfolio stuff, trying to update some of my
old models and animations.
I figure I should be around more next week, I hope.
GwegKeymasterOk, I got in my old PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 510 ATX power supply (Scott'll remember be spending $250 on it and getting it shipped overnight cuz I had projects and needed a running computer as soon as possible) in my 64-bit machine, and everything seems to be running great right now. I've only had it running for a few hours, but so far, no problems. So it would seem that the Ultra X-Connect I had in here could no longer supply enough juice to run this computer.
So, looks like now I have to save up for another PS. And from now on, I'm not using any type of power supply except for PC Power and Cooling power supplies.
GwegKeymasterOh boy did I ever, and $1100 and 2 years later I fixed that. Anyway, I plugged in an ATX tester, and it says my PS is fine. I don't know whether to trust that or not. I need to go put my PS outta my workstation into that computer and try it. Been working so much this week, I haven't had the chance to sit down and do it. So, for the time being, I'm just gonna be on my old 950MHz computer. I tell ya, the board and CPU to this one is almost 7 years old, and the PS in it is almost 8 years old, and they're all still running strong. Goes to show how more reliable older hardware seems to run (not to mention the fact that it's not draining nearly as much from the PS as newer computers do).
GwegKeymasterCrap dude, that thing is ancient. I set that up after I left SimpleNet (now Yahoo). Technically, I still knew that it was there, but never really had a reason to go back to it. And if my mind servers me right, I still have some old stuff in the directories of that site I should check on, if I still remember my login info.
GwegKeymasterJust haven't been on the internet much lately. It literally interests me no more. The
internet has become one of the most boring places in the world. Anyway, I should be around more soon later,
just not at the moment. Tinkered with overclocking a few things in my system, and now I've got some
problems to fix, so once I sort those out, I should be around more.
GwegKeymasterI know. It's a real bummer. Wish we could have gotten that joke on
tape.
GwegKeymasterMan, I bet that was an awesome concert. It was probably really sweet to hear “One-Winged
Angel” live. I've always wanted to hear it like that. “Swing de Chocobo” had to be
great too.
GwegKeymasterAnother great song by Weird Al. This one had me cracking up. I also
recommend going to:
http://music.yahoo.com/ar-2693…..l-Yankovic
and
watching the music video, which was animated by the great Bill Plympton (caution, ActiveX required, may need the use
of IE — stupid Yahoo).
Oh yeah, congrats Tim, on the 100th post!!
GwegKeymasterMoved the topic as there's a possibility it could be a software issue. Anyway, I think that
might have happened to me a long time ago, seems like a familiar problem. Only thing is tho, I'm not
quite sure how to fix it. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the browsers might work, but if it's more of
an issue with Windows, more work might need done. I'd start by maybe just changing resolutions, refresh
rates, and color depths, just to make Windows reset the display. If not, try right clicking on 'My
Computer –> Properties' then going to the 'Advanced' tab, then under Performance, click
'Settings'. Under the 'Visual Effects' tab, try reselecting some of your options, and see
if that fixes anything.
That's all I can think of now, Tim might be able to shed some info once he
gets a free moment.
GwegKeymasterHence the development of a more stable player, Media Player Classic. Only
downfall, no plugin support for web browsers. Tim, I'm also living proof that WMP isn't worth jack;
I haven't gotten it to work right in over 3 years, even after a clean install. That would be a great
topic to write about. I might have too look into it some once I get myself some free time.
GwegKeymasterThis seems like a really great article. Next time my Windows goes bad, I'm gonna have to try
this, wish I knew this about 2 weeks ago. Not only would this have saved me the hassle of having to reinstall
Windows onto this PC, but I would still have my second hard drive available to me, WITH all the data that was on it,
and not formatted because Windows can't tell the difference between an 80GB SATA drive and an 80GB EIDE drive
(long story, won't get into it here).
